WAGE TAX GENERAL INFORMATION
There are three income taxes of which you should be aware:
Per Capita Taxes are paid by individuals only and the cost is $10.00 per borough resident per year. Everyone over 18 pays this tax, if they earn or receive more than $2,000.00 per year from all sources, including retirement income and disability income. THIS TAX IS NOT PAID BY YOUR EMPLOYER. EACH RESIDENT PAYS THE $10.00 THEMSELVES.
Occupational Privilege Tax, also known as the EMST or LST , is paid to the municipality in which you work, and this tax is always withheld from your pay by your Employer during the first quarter of each calendar year. Depending on the town in which you work, the amount can range from $10.00 up to $52.00.
Local 1% Income Tax is paid quarterly and is usually withheld by your employer, but some individuals pay it quarterly for themselves. The amount you pay is 1% of your wages (Pa. State) per year. This amount is then confirmed by your yearly W-2, Line 16, (Pa.) state wages. You may also use your yearly PA Tax Return to confirm earnings.
